What Is the Purpose of the Collected Data?

The information we collect may serve many different purposes. Your personal data may be used for the following:

  • Travel bookings:

First and foremost, we use your personal data to create and process your online travel bookings—this is essential for us to provide you with this service. This includes sending travel booking-related notifications, such as booking confirmations, change confirmations, and reminders. In some cases, it may also involve processing your personal data to enable online check-in via travel providers or to handle potential damage deposit matters.

  • Customer service:

When you contact customer service, we share your data (e.g., order details, account information) with our staff to assist with your booking.

  • Account Features:

Users can create an account on our website or app. We use your personal data to manage this account, enabling access to useful features. Easily manage your orders, access special offers, make bookings, and personalize settings.

  • Online Groups:

Online Groups: We enable account holders to connect and interact through online groups or forums (e.g., travel communities).

  • Marketing Activities:

We use your personal data for marketing activities, including:

    1. Using your contact information to send regular updates on travel-related products and services. You can easily unsubscribe from these marketing communications at any time by clicking the 'unsubscribe' link in any newsletter or promotional page.
    2. Based on your provided information, we may display personalized offers on our website, app, or third-party sites/apps (including social media). Some offers are directly bookable on our site or co-branded sites, while others are from third parties, including products we believe may interest you.
    3. When you participate in other promotions (e.g., sweepstakes, referral programs, contests), only relevant information will be used to process those activities.
  • Contacting You:

We may also contact you in other situations via email, chatbots, postal mail, phone, and SMS. Our contact method will depend on the information you've provided. We also process communications you send us. This may occur for several reasons, including:

    1. Responding to and processing your requests or those related to your booked products. We also provide various channels for customers and us to exchange information, make requests, and offer suggestions or reviews for hotels or bookings made through us.
    2. If you've started but not completed an online order, we may contact you to remind you to finalize your booking. We believe this additional service is beneficial, allowing you to resume from your last booking step without re-searching or re-entering details.

We also use personal information for analysis to enhance our product services; continuously improving service quality and user experience is our ongoing commitment. For this, we use personal data for testing, troubleshooting, and compiling business data analytics. The primary goal is to gain insights into service performance and user behavior, ultimately optimizing and personalizing our website and app to provide more convenient and practical services. We strive to use de-identified, anonymous personal data for this analysis.

  • Providing the Best Applicable Price Based on Your Location:

When you search on our app or website, for example, to book accommodation, we process your IP address to determine if you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or another country. This allows us to provide the best pricing information based on your region (EEA or non-EEA).

  • Customer Reviews and Other Destination-Related Information:

During or after your trip, we may invite you to write a review. We may also ask your travel companions or the actual travelers you booked for to provide reviews, including details about the travel provider or destination. By submitting a review, you agree to its display on relevant travel provider information pages on our site, our mobile app, social media accounts and apps, the travel provider's online platform, or business partner websites. Reviews help other travelers understand the quality of travel services, destinations, and other shared experiences.

  • Call Management:

When you call our customer service team, we use an automatic phone number detection system to locate associated orders, saving both your and our staff's time. However, our staff may still need to verify your identity to ensure order data security. During your call, we may monitor or record it in real-time for quality control and training, including for handling complaints, legal claims, and fraud detection. Not all calls are recorded. Recorded calls are automatically deleted after a period, unless retention is deemed necessary for fraud investigations or legal purposes. More information is available below.

  • Providing Secure and Trustworthy Services:

To foster a trustworthy environment for you and your fellow travelers, we collaborate with business partners and travel providers to continuously analyze and use specific personal data to detect and prevent online or offline fraud, misconduct, or illegal/unauthorized activities. We also use personal data for risk assessment and security, such as when you report security concerns or when user identity and booking verification are required. We may need to terminate or temporarily suspend specific travel orders until relevant assessments are complete.

  • Legal Purposes:

Finally, in specific situations, we may need to use your data to address legal requests and disputes, cooperate with judicial investigations, comply with regulations, enforce our online service terms, or fulfill legitimate law enforcement requests. You decide whether to provide personal data. However, if we only collect partial data, you may only access partial services. For example, without your contact information, Fooyee cannot process your travel order. If automated personal data processing has legal effects or significant impacts on you, we will implement necessary measures to protect your rights and freedoms, including the right to human intervention.

For the purposes outlined above, we process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

Where applicable, for purposes A and B, we must use your personal data to fulfill contractual obligations, specifically to complete and process your travel orders.

If you do not provide the required personal data, we cannot complete your travel order or provide customer service. For purposes C to L, we (or third parties) rely on legitimate interests to provide and improve services and prevent fraud and other misconduct (further detailed under C to L).

When using your personal data for our or a third party's legitimate interests, we balance your rights and interests in personal data security with our or the third party's rights and interests. For purpose M, we rely on applicable legal bases for compliance obligations (e.g., law enforcement requests).

Finally, if required by applicable law, we will only provide your personal data to the extent legally mandated, such as for law enforcement agencies or other legally required requests.

To stop personal data use for purposes C-L, if direct settings adjustment isn't possible (e.g., via account settings), please write to fooyee.yonghe@gmail.com

    • Marketing Services: To market our services through third parties (ensuring accurate ad targeting), we share personal data, including your email address and phone number, with advertising partners. If customer support is provided by the business partner, we will also provide them with necessary booking-related data (when required) to ensure appropriate and timely support. When you book through a business partner's website, that partner may also receive personal data from us related to that booking, as well as your interaction records on their websites, for their business purposes. When you use our online services or app, we use cookies and other tracking technologies (which may also be referred to as "cookies" in this Cookie Statement).

We use cookies in many ways, such as to operate our website, analyze traffic, or for advertising.

To learn more about what cookies are, how they're used, and what settings you can adjust, please read below.

Web browser cookies are tiny text files websites store in your computer or mobile device's browser.

Cookies are categorized as "first-party" and "third-party":

  1. First-Party Cookies are used by the domain owner, which is us. Any cookies we place are "first-party cookies."
  2. Third-Party Cookies are cookies set by trusted partners we allow on our domain. These may include social media, advertising, or security partners, among others.

They may place "session cookies" or "persistent cookies":

  1. Session Cookies only exist until you close your browser, ending the "session" and deleting the cookie.
  2. Persistent Cookies have varying lifespans and remain on your device after you close your browser. On our platform, we (or permitted third parties) aim to use persistent cookies with limited lifespans. However, for security or other exceptional reasons, we may extend a cookie's lifespan when necessary.

Web browser cookies may store information like your IP address or other identifiers, browser type, and digital service content you've viewed or interacted with. This allows them to remember your preferences, online service settings, and analyze your usage.

Beyond cookies, we use similar tracking technologies. Our website, emails, and mobile apps may contain transparent tiny image files or code that record your content interactions. These include web beacons, scripts, tracking URLs, or Software Development Kits (SDKs):

  1. Web Beacons are known by many names: web bugs, tracking bugs, tags, web tags, page tags, tracking pixels, pixel tags, 1x1 GIFs, or clear GIFs. Essentially, a web beacon is a single-pixel image file sent to your computer via a web request within an app, ad, or HTML email. They gather device data like type, OS, IP address, and visit time. Web beacons also help maintain cookie function, read browser cookie messages, or trigger cookie placement.
  2. Scripts are small computer programs embedded on our web pages, enabling extensive additional features. Scripts ensure proper website function, activating security features and basic interactive elements. They also serve analytics or advertising purposes, collecting data on your site usage, like pages visited or search queries.
  3. Tracking URLs are links with unique identifying information, used to track which website directed you to our site or app. For example, they show if you arrived from a social media page, search engine, or an affiliate partner's site.
  4. Software Development Kits (SDKs) are parts of our app's source code. Unlike browser cookies, SDK data is stored within the app. SDKs analyze app usage or send personalized notifications by recording unique device identifiers like device ID, IP address, app activity logs, and network connection location.

In this Cookie Statement, all aforementioned tracking technologies are collectively referred to as "Cookies."

How Are Cookie Technologies Used?

Using cookies collects information, including:

  • IP Address
  • Device ID
  • Pages viewed
  • Browser type
  • Browsing information
  • Operating system
  • Internet Service Provider
  • Timestamp
  • Did you respond to an ad?
  • Source URL
  • Website/app features used or activities engaged in

Cookies help identify you as the same user when browsing our website or using our app across different pages or devices. They serve three main purposes: functional, analytical, and commercial.

Functional Cookies

Our website and app require these cookies to provide you with services.

We also use functional cookies to enhance our website and app, making them more user-friendly and personalized for easier browsing and booking. They also enable essential security and accessibility features.

Specifically, these cookies help by:

  • Ensuring our website and app function correctly, allowing you to create an account, log in, and manage your orders.
  • Remembering your currency, language, past searches, and other preferences for a more efficient and rewarding experience on our website and app.
  • We use cookies to remember your registration details, eliminating the need to re-enter login information on subsequent visits to our site or app. (Passwords are encrypted.)

Analytical Cookies

These cookies help us understand how you use our website and app. We use this information to improve our site, app, and services.

Specifically, these cookies help by:

  • Helping us understand how visitors and customers use our website and app.
  • Helping us further improve our website and app, ensuring our content is engaging and useful.
  • Identifying which features on our site and app are effective and which need improvement.
  • Tracking user interaction with our website and app after viewing online ads (including third-party ads).
  • Our business partners can also see if customers utilize accommodation offers integrated into their websites.

These cookies collect data such as pages viewed, entry/exit pages, platform type, email opens/clicks, and timestamps. We also track other website/app activity, including screen clicks, mouse movements, scroll paths, search keywords, and text input.

Commercial Cookies

We and our trusted partners use these cookies to collect information about your past usage across different websites, apps, and online platforms.

Specifically, these cookies help by:

  • For example, based on your website visits and clicks, we categorize you into interest groups. This data helps us display personalized content (like travel inspiration or specific accommodations) on our and other websites.
  • Displaying personalized, interest-based ads on our website, app, and other sites. This 'retargeting' is based on your browsing activity (e.g., searched locations, viewed accommodations, prices) and potentially your activity on other websites. Retargeting ads may appear before and after you leave us, encouraging you to browse or return. You might see these ads on websites, apps, or in emails.
  • Social media integration on our website and app allows you to like or share content on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, and LinkedIn. These features use code from social media providers, enabling third-party cookies on your device. These cookies may be functional or used to track your visits from their networks, build online browsing profiles, and display personalized ads. This data is also combined with comparative data from other sites you visit within their networks. For details on how social media uses your personal data, refer to their Cookie and/or Privacy Statements: Facebook (including Instagram, Messenger, and Audience Network), Snapchat, Pinterest, and Twitter. These statements may be updated.

We partner with trusted third parties for data collection and may share information like your email or phone number. These third parties may link your data with other collected information to create customer profiles or deliver targeted ads. For details on how these third parties process your personal data, see the links below: How Google uses personal data, Facebook Data Policy.

Non-Cookie Technologies – Email Pixels

We may also use other technologies (e.g., pixels) not classified as cookies, as they don't store information on your device.

We sometimes embed pixels in emails, like newsletters. A 'pixel' is a one-pixel electronic file that loads when you open an email. Email pixels help us track message delivery, if and when you read it, and what you clicked.

We also receive this information for notification messages. This statistical data provides feedback on your reading behavior, which we use to optimize content and provide more useful information.
